Family health assessment is a very vital tool that is utilized by physicians to inspect the health position of families. Family health assessment is a vital tool in this perspective as it helps doctors understand what the health strengths are and weaknesses of any family and devise a plan to enhance the health of each family member. The assessment is a practical health patter undertaking that employs Gordon’s health functional instrument which offers the physician eleven items to base the assessment on (Ginsburg et al. 2019). The family lives in a family-owned house in Colorado. Peter and his wife are clinicians who have their healthcare facility in the nearest town. The grandparents are all retired civil servants but are still active community workshop participants. The children in the family are in their early elementary classes and attend a private school that is close to their home. Peters is a highly social family that likes to socialize with neighbors when they are free from work and other activities. Peters spend their weekend when they are free with the neighbors and sometimes take time to visit their family friends and other relatives. They also spend some time visiting the parks and other recreation facilities in the area and areas beyond (Ginsburg et al. 2019). Functional analysis of the family members indicates that they are blessed differently although the grandparents I the family complains of frequent joint pains especially when they have spent much time at home.

From the interviews, family members make efforts to ensure that they feed on healthy foods. The mother and grandma in the family spend most of their time in the chicken preparing meals for the family. They ensure that all family members do not feed on ready made food especially when they are at home. They make family meals daily after their long day activities. The family feeds on cereals, rice, corn, and vegetables, drink homemade soup, fish, chicken, and fruits. The father and grandfather are fond of coffee which they take after evening meals. Family has enrolled the elderly members in a laughing group where they spend most of their time in the evening. As expected of clinicians, the father and the mother have little time to spare after long day work and when they are free, the father reads health magazines and books while the mother likes watching health documentaries and family-based soups. The children enjoy bicycle riding while they are at home and spend some time watching cartoon programs and playing video games.

Assessment of the family health status reveals several functional health strengths and a few weaknesses that need to be diagnosed. As already mentioned, the elderly members of the family are in a laughing club something that reduces them of stress and depression. On many occasions, the family members strode in the evening and over the weekend to the nearby mall to do their shopping and the children are fond of riding bicycles. The father and the mother in the family ensure that the members drink enough water and other non-flavored drinks apart from the many fruits, vegetables, and cereals that dominate their meals. A serious health issue in the family is that of the grandfather who has depression and sometimes experiences anxiety attacks. Children and the parents have not expressed any form of health problems say for the mother who has respiratory problems occasionally but is not serious (Kohls et al. 2016). Children sleep for approximately 7 hours while parents and grandparents spend at least 6 hours of sleep. On rare occasions, the parents complain of restlessness and stress but these are linked to the nature of their work (Hung et al. 2017).

Family system theory plays a significant role in identifying the role of family members in changing distinct behaviors in the family. It focuses on the analysis of individual family member’s behaviors and how the behavior may influence family health and overall well being. It defines the origin of family members’ behaviors including why children in the family behave the way they do (Erdem & Safi, 2018). In many cases, healthcare practitioners have used the concept of family system theory to explain why family members may dislike certain foods or behaviors. The family easily copes to new changes that will enhance their wellness such as eating healthy food to maintain their good health.
