Compliance and integrity management entail upholding regulations as outlined by national laws including HIPAA regarding the protection of pertinent patient information.
Nurses deal with a lot of sensitive information regarding patients’ health status. Ensuring the security of this information is important to protect the integrity of clients and uphold ANA’s compliance and integrity management. Nurses should always be aware and handle data with struct confidentiality and also respect the private life of the clients. With that comes the issue of ethics in handling information relating to others. Individuals will live full lives in the knowledge that that certain information is not accessible to others unless they decide to share it (Cohen & Mello, 2018). QSEN Competencies
The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) has an overall goal of preparing nurses to have the necessary skills, knowledge, as well as well attitudes in order for them to improve the safety and quality of healthcare systems where they work. QSEN competencies for nursing include patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics (QSEN Institute, 2012). Most of these competencies are aligned to ANA’s functional areas including compliance and integrity management. I should seek to develop my knowledge skills, and attitudes in areas such as patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, safety, informatics, and quality improvement.
Patient centered care entails recognizing the patient as the controller and full-partner in the provision of compassionate and coordinated care based on their preferences, needs and values. The knowledge on analyzing ethical a well a legal implication of patient-centered care and skills in maintaining therapeutic relationships, or attitudes such as shared-decision making with patients and families are critical aspects of patient centered care that relate with compliance and integrity management. Team-work and collaboration encompass functioning effectively within inter-professional teams and nursing to foster open communication, shared decision-making, as well as mutual respect with the aim of achieving quality patient-care.
