Future Scope, Role, And Professional Obligations Assignment

Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations

Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are vital to the healthcare system as they provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care across the lifespan (Hu & Forgeron, 2018). APNs are educated and trained to provide comprehensive care, including diagnosing and treating complex diseases and conditions. Also, APNs have a broad scope of professional obligations that go beyond the traditional nurse role. Sánchez-Gómez et al. (2019) highlight that APNs must be knowledgeable about the latest advances in their field and able to provide quality care to patients regardless of their medical condition or location. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the scope of my future role as an APN, the professional nursing organizations that most influence the scope of APN, and the evaluation of an organization I would join. Also included in the paper is a discussion of a controversial issue that could affect my future scope and role Future Scope, Role, And Professional Obligations Assignment.

Scope of My Future Role as an Advanced Registered Nurse

According to Casey & O’Connor (2022), APNs apply relevant evidence research from research, knowledge, skills, and experience to offer high-quality care that enhances patient outcomes. Advanced registered nurses have additional training in critical, chronic, and palliative care areas. There is a growing demand for nurses with advanced registered nurse credentials. These nurses are in high demand because they have the skills and training to provide comprehensive care to patients in acute or chronic settings. The scope of APNs depends on the specialization or career pathway the registered nurse takes. The scope of my future role as an advanced registered nurse would include providing education and therapeutic services, such as helping patients with their daily activities and providing emotional support. Besides, the scope of my future role as an advanced registered nurse would include providing emotional support and coordinating care for patients in their home or hospice setting.

As an advanced registered nurse, several agencies define the scope of my future role. The most important are the regulatory, certification, and accreditation agencies. Regulatory agencies are responsible for setting standards and regulations for nursing practice. Certification is a process by which regulatory agencies recognize individuals who have met the required standards. Accreditation is an evaluation of a nursing program by an independent body. Regulatory agencies that define the scope of an advanced registered nurse’s role include the National Council for accreditation for rehabilitation nursing (NCAAR), the National League for Nursing (NLN), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). NCAAR offers both certification and accreditation for nursing, while NLN offers certification and accreditation for registered nurses who practice in the acute care setting. ANCC also certifies and accredits registered nurses who practice in the long-term care setting.

Professional Nursing Organizations That Are Most Influential In Advancing the Scope and Influence of Advanced Nursing

One of the most influential professional nursing organizations in advancing the scope and influence of advanced nursing is the American Nurses Association (ANA). ANA represents the interests of all registered nurses in the United States and advances the profession of nursing by advocating for nurses at the local, national, and global levels (Wheeler et al., 2022). The organization is very influential in supporting individuals and organizations to attain advanced standards of the nursing profession. The National Association of Nurse Practitioners (NANP) is a professional membership organization for nurse practitioners (NPs) in the United States whose mission is to provide leadership and advocacy to support the growth and development of NP practice, improve the quality of patient care, and promote public understanding of NP roles. NANP also provides resources and educational opportunities for its members. NANP represents nurse practitioners in the United States before federal, state, and local governments, health care organizations, and the public. Specifically, NANP advances the practice of nurse practitioners through advocacy, education, and research Future Scope, Role, And Professional Obligations Assignment.

The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) is another professional organization representing clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) in the United States. The organization’s mission is to promote excellence in patient care by advancing the role of CNSs and promoting the best practices for CNS care. The NACNS also provides resources and support to its members, promotes public awareness of the role of CNSs, and works to improve the quality of patient care.

The Organization That I Would Most Like to Join

The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) is the professional nursing organization that is most influential in advancing the scope and influence of advanced nursing. I would most like to join NACNS because its goals and mission align with my worldview and philosophy of care. They advocate for advanced nursing practice, provide resources to support nurses in their work, and promote collaboration among members. The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists aims to optimize health outcomes and transform healthcare delivery for individuals, families, and communities through developing, disseminating, and implementing evidence-based best practices for clinical nurse specialists. The NACNS believes that all individuals should have access to the highest quality care and that nurses should be the primary resource for health care delivery. This resonates with my worldview and philosophy of care that all people should have access to the highest quality care possible. I believe that clinical nurse specialists are essential to achieving these goals, as they have expertise in specific areas of nursing and the knowledge and skills to provide quality care to various populations.

How Membership in the Organization Might Improve My Practice

Membership in the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) can improve my clinical practice by providing access to the latest research and evidence-based practice guidelines, networking opportunities with other clinical nurse specialists, and support in developing and maintaining quality care. In addition, membership can provide a forum for sharing best practices and challenges encountered in the field. As a member, I will access a wealth of resources needed to help meet the challenges of today’s complex healthcare environment and grow my practice.

Controversial or Evolving Issue That is most likely to Affect My Scope of Practice or Role in the Next Few Years

A controversial or evolving issue that is most likely to affect my scope of advanced nursing practice or role in the next few years is the role of nurses in the provision of healthcare. Currently, the public and some care providers recognize APN roles or cannot discern the significance of advanced nursing degrees and their unique qualifications (Godsey et al., 2020). There is a growing concern that nurses are being pushed out of the frontline of healthcare provision, with increasing emphasis on physician-led care. This is leading to a decrease in the number of registered nurses and a corresponding increase in the number of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Despite the recommendation by the report published by the IOM in 2010 on “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” nurses and APNs may lack opportunities to practice to their full extent professional training (Goldsberry, 2018). Thus they may not fully partner with physicians to redesign healthcare. There are many benefits to having a team approach to healthcare, and there is no doubt that nurses play a key role in providing high-quality care. However, there is also a risk that nurses are being sidelined and lose sight of their essential role in healthcare provision. If this trend continues, it will have serious consequences for the quality of care that patients receive and the future career prospects of nurses.

The impact of the trend toward physician-led care on nurses’ careers is important because it has the potential to impact the quality of care they provide significantly. The issue matters to advanced registered nurses because nurses are critical in providing healthcare. Nurses are the healthcare experts, and if their roles are diminished, this will significantly impact patients’ quality of care. I believe that nurses must continue to play a pivotal role in providing healthcare, advocate for their rights, and ensure they receive the recognition and resources needed to be effective practitioners. In this way, I believe that nurses can play a role in mitigating the consequences of the current trend toward physician-led care.
