Health Policy On Evidence Based Approach Discussion

Health policies refers to the set of principles and goals put into place to dictate the way in which patients access care and how it is delivered to them (Nilan et al., 2019). A good example of healthcare policy is the one forbidding the use of alcohol and cigarette smoking at work. This policy was introduced by the government to reduce the majority of people who smoke and during while working and especially the healthcare providers. The main reason for the introduction of this policy was to save many healthcare seekers from the dangers that are associated with careless wrong medications and improper diagnosis. There had been many cases reported, hereby doctors and nurses prescribed or gave wrong diagnosis to the patients while under the influence of these drug, endangering the health of the patients and the lives of those who depended on these particular patients Health Policy On Evidence Based Approach Discussion

An evidence based practice supporting this policy do exist. There are several ways to show  or prove that the evidence exist, like for example, a patient suffering from diabetes visiting an health center for the first time. This particular patient was experiencing the normal diabetic symptoms like thirst and frequent urination. The client also explained that he had a wound that took very long to heal. The doctor on duty was under the influence of cigarette and alcohol during the time this patient visited the hospital. After assessing and prescribing medicine to the patient, complications developed later on this patient’s health due to wrong medication provided by this doctor who was under the influence of drugs (Hango et al., 2022) .  Another example why I believe in the existence of an evidence base is the case of a malaria patient who visited a hospital and found a drunkard nurse on duty. While under the influence of the drugs, the doctor did not take time to carry out a test to determine the disease this patient was suffering from. Instead, he gave the patient acetaminophen, a drug used to reduce the covid19 symptoms. After this prescription, the patient passed on after few days (Nilan et al., 2019).

Discussion 1: Evidence Base in Design
When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety Health Policy On Evidence Based Approach Discussion.

In this Discussion, you will identify a recently proposed health policy and share your analysis of the evidence in support of this policy.

To Prepare:

Review the Congress website provided in the Resources and identify one recent (within the past 5 years) proposed health policy.
Review the health policy you identified and reflect on the background and development of this health policy.

Post a description of the health policy you selected and a brief background for the problem or issue being addressed. Explain whether you believe there is an evidence base to support the proposed policy and explain why. Be specific and provide examples.
