Part 1: Reflection

The lecture on introduction to 3P was very enlightening to me. It was an eye opener that made me know just what kind of task lays ahead of me with regard to the cognitive domain of learning. The first thing that I was surprised to learn from the lecture was that the 3P reference actually denotes three crucial subject areas namely Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Physical assessment. Having gone through the syllabus for my FNP course, I know that competency in these three areas is mandatory for successful completion and practice (Beeber et al., 2019; DeCapua, n.d.). Before attending the lecture I had thought that the 3P notation represented some principle or something like that related to general advanced nursing studies. Looking at my personal work-life-school situation, I find that I have a few of my own greatest concerns or challenges that I may potentially face in the second half of the FNP program. This is with regard to work-life and school-work balance. I have a family and so I am also responsible for my family aside from the fact that I have academic obligations to also meet. This places a lot of strain on me and I foresee a situation that will require a lot of understanding and support from my family. The many hours that I will spend at work then at school will reduce the amount of time I will be able to send with my family. The other concern is that there will be a financial consequence as well. I may have to stop or reduce expenditure on some family projects so that I may divert the funds to finance my FNP program (McCauley et al., 2020). Overcoming these concerns will make me a better FNP who will bring about change in all respects (Newland, 2019).

Part 2: Goals

Given my personal circumstances and life problems, three specific goals that would aid in my accomplishment in two areas are described below:

  1. 3P Goals
  • My initial 3P aim is to study pathophysiology for 6 hours per week by dedicating 60 minutes every night from 8-8:30 for six weeks.
  • My next 3P aim is to devote at least one hour every alternate day to studying pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics until the semester’s summative assessment comes at the end of the semester.
  • My third 3P goal is to perform at least three physical assessment simulations every week for the entire semester until I am competent in it and ready for practicum attachment.
  1. Clinical Goals
  • My initial clinical goal is to approach seven different facilities each week in search of a pediatric supervisor until I find somebody to organize for practical attachment before the program is completed.
  • My second clinical objective is to stop working on full time basis so that I can accomplish forty more hours in my pediatric cycle from October to December 2022. This will make me more employable after completion in a pediatric practice context.
  • My third and last clinical goal is to practice and be competent in conducting at least six assessment tests before the end of the semester. This includes tools such as the Braden Scale and the Norton Scale for evaluating the risk of pressure ulcers in bedridden patients. Others tools that I can also practice on are like the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the Sit to Stand Test (STST), and the Dynamic Gait Index or DGI for fall risk assessment amongst others (Falcão et al., 2019) Introduction To 3P And Clinical Reflections And Goals Essay.
