Leadership Profile And How To Strengthen My Leadership Capacity Based On The Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment Discussion

 My Leadership Profile

Understanding areas of potential is crucial to developing one’s leadership ability. The Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment is a tool to measure presence and magnitude of talents in 34 areas generally called themes. Talents provide insight into how a person thinks, behaves, and feels. Talents serve as basis for strengths development. The StrengthsFinder assessment ranks the themes from high to low in order of dominance. The themes ranking highest on the assessment are areas of greatest potential and where most impact can be manifested from strengths development. For me, the top five signature themes of talent are individualization, learner, arranger, includer, and intellection, ranked from the highest to the lowest of the top five talents. This discussion explores my leadership profile and how to strengthen my leadership capacity based on the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment Leadership Profile And How To Strengthen My Leadership Capacity Based On The Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment Discussion .

Part 1: Description of results from the StrengthsFinder assessment

Individualization is a relationship talent theme. Relationship themes relate to the capacity to build relationships and use personal connection to accomplish things. Individualization refers to ones capacity to recognize the unique traits of others. People with talent for individualization can easily come up with ways for different people to productively work together as a group. Such people dislike doing things and treating people uniformly. Individualizers treasure opportunities to customize approaches on how to manage people, find uniquely gifted individuals for specific positions, and set targets for people based on their distinctive qualities (Rosson & Weeks, 2018).

Learner is a thinking talent theme. Talent themes entail the use of cognitive faculties.  Learners cherish acquiring new knowledge and seek continuous improvement. They find excitement in the learning process, not just on the product of learning. Learners thrive in an environment that facilitates continuous learning, openness to new ways of doing things, curiosity, and opportunities to develop and test new technologies and processes. Learners are averse to monotonous roles, job stagnation, long run maintenance functions, and focus on minutiae (Thorn & Yancey, 2021). Arranger is a relationship theme. Arrangers have natural aptitude for flexible organization. They excel at figuring out how different elements can be brought together to maximize productivity. Arrangers find satisfaction in environments with flexibility, ability to delegate and assign tasks to those best suited for them, collaboration, and complex problem solving. They loathe rigidity, outdated processes, and people who stubbornly stick to ineffective processes.

Includer is a relationship theme. Includers have talent for inclusiveness for all people and good empathic awareness (Thorn & Yancey, 2021). Includers value environments that allow for multiple viewpoints and opportunities to expand a group’s emotional intelligence. They abhor gate-keeping, disregard for perspectives of some stakeholders in an undertaking, and lack of diversity. Intellection is thinking talent theme. Intellective people enjoy intellectual discussions and exhibit introspection. They treasure having time to ponder the practical and theoretical dimensions of a problem, organizing their thoughts before sharing or making reports, and leeway to build new models of thought. Conversely, groupthink, pressure to react on the spur, and being required to act on unexplained instructions make for a depressive environment (Rosson & Weeks, 2018) Leadership Profile And How To Strengthen My Leadership Capacity Based On The Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment Discussion .

Part 2: Core values, strengths, and characteristics I would like to strengthen

Core values differ from characteristics in that core values relate to who one wants to be while characteristics entail who one already is. To boost my leadership capacity, I would like to strengthen the two core values of creativity and compassion (Thorn & Yancey, 2021). As per my assessment, working on my creativity will turn my potential for intellection and learning into actuality. Creativity acts as a link between what I learn and think to how I present myself to the world. Strengthening my capacity for compassion will also help turn the potential for inclusion and individualization into abilities that positively impact my interactions with colleagues and clients Leadership Profile And How To Strengthen My Leadership Capacity Based On The Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment Discussion .

In terms of strengths, I understand that I have better-than-average capacity for organizing. This is one of the things that enabled me to attain the position of head nurse. I can understand problems as flow systems and people as drivers for flow, and how to place people in the best position to initiate and maintain flows based on their abilities. Strengthening my organizing capacity will make me a better, more productive leader (Bartz et al, 2017). The other strength I can work on is adaptability. My aptitude for learning, thinking and inclusivity constitute my strength of adaptability in the face of changes. Sometimes, I do not come up with solutions but make space for others to present their evaluation of a case. As such, improving this strength is likely to enhance my leadership ability.

As to characteristics, one of the character traits I want to strengthen is curiosity. I am a curious person. I took a StrengthsFinder assessment because I was curious where my greatest potential lies based on my natural aptitudes. Boosting and refining my curiosity is something I think will lend to my leadership capacity (Bartz et al, 2017). I also am ambitious. I want to excel in my practice, to be a model for new entrants to the field, and be the most capable nurse practitioner I can be. I want a great sense of achievement. Therefore, I want to cultivate ambition because it is an important driving force in my work.
