Why you chose this article and/or how it relates to the clinical issue of interest (include a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest) | It appreciates the role of quality care in patient safety and acknowledges that up to 80% of patients care errors are preventable with most of the damaging hair is being associated with the use of medications and prescription.
The article appreciates that most of the medication use errors account for up to 6% of hospital admissions made up to 40% of the air is being avoidable.
The article is informed by the literature review that unsafe medication practices are a major cause of preventable patient harm in healthcare systems worldwide.
The article defines dispensing errors as inconsistencies between prescribed drugs and dispensed drugs and relate the errors to ineffective and at times and undesirable pharmaceutical outcomes.
Brief description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article | It assess the perceptions of nurses on the level of implementing a standardized protocol of care and to assess its impact on notification of adverse events associated with medication administration.
The research aimed to establish the content and face validity of an assessment instrument for safe drug administration used by nursing students.
The research sought to establish the magnitude and contributing factors for errors associated with medication administration among nurses at a tertiary care hospital in Addis Ababa.
The study aimed to establish the frequency and types of dispensing errors at a hospital in San Juan and the reasons for the frequency of the dispensing errors.
Brief description of the research methodology used Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific. |
The comparative study was quasi experimental and non randomised in nature, being conducted at a general University Hospital in Spain. The study was mixed methods in nature by assessing the perceptions of nurses on the degree of implementation of a new protocol Nurses Perceptions on the Implementation of a Safe Drug Administration Protocol And Its Effect on Error Notification Paper.
The study used a quantitative descriptive approach. A survey was conducted using the safe drug administration protocol as well the instrument for safe drug administration assessment.
The study was quantitatively nature by providing self-administered survey questionnaires in a cross-sectional study format and checklist in data through self-report and direct observation of nurses while administering medications.
Being an observational study it is qualitative in nature because data collected from observations is usually qualitative. The observed dispensing errors were recorded and later analysed.
A brief description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected. |
The descriptive analysis provides an in-depth perspective of the two categorical variables through chi-square analysis and the mean values. The study combines the strengths of quantitative and qualitative study which are generalization and in-depth findings respectively.
The research method helps accurately describe a situation by collecting quantifiable data of a sample population for statistical analysis.
The quantitative data was descriptively analysed using SPSS version 24. The methodology has the strength of focusing on logic numbers and objective stances and convergent reasoning to describe characteristics and correlations.
Observational studies deal with natural settings and human objects in a non-constricted environment. Advantages of observation data collection method include direct access to research phenomena, high levels of flexibility in terms of application and generating a permanent record of phenomena to be referred to later.
General Notes/Comments |
Implementing non punitive measures when handling adverse event notifications can improve a culture of safety and encourage safe clinical practices among nurses administering medications.
Nurses can safely administer medication using the safe drug administration assessment instrument as a preventive strategy for medication administration errors.
Continually training nurses on safe medication administration and making medication administration guidelines accessible to nurses can help create a labelling environment for patient safety.
The study observed dispensing errors in 2.1% of the field prescriptions at the Healthcare pharmacy. The dispensing errors were associated with heavy workload failure to verify patient data distractions and uncomfortable working conditions.

Is there a difference between “common practice†and “best practice
When you first went to work for your current organization, experienced colleagues may have shared with you details about processes and procedures. Perhaps you even attended an orientation session to brief you on these matters. As a “rookie,†you likely kept the nature of your questions to those with answers that would best help you perform your new role.
Over time and with experience, perhaps you recognized aspects of these processes and procedures that you wanted to question further. This is the realm of clinical inquiry.
Clinical inquiry is the practice of asking questions about clinical practice. To continuously improve patient care, all nurses should consistently use clinical inquiry to question why they are doing something the way they are doing it. Do they know why it is done this way, or is it just because we have always done it this way? Is it a common practice or a best practice?
In this Assignment, you will identify clinical areas of interest and inquiry and practice searching for research in support of maintaining or changing these practices. You will also analyze this research to compare research methodologies employed.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry. Keep in mind that the clinical issue you identify for your research will stay the same for the entire course.
Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.
Part 1: Identifying Research Methodologies
After reading each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, use the Matrix Worksheet template to analyze the methodologies applied in each of the four peer-reviewed articles. Your analysis should include the following Nurses Perceptions on the Implementation of a Safe Drug Administration Protocol And Its Effect on Error Notification Paper:
The full citation of each peer-reviewed article in APA format.
A brief (1-paragraph) statement explaining why you chose this peer-reviewed article and/or how it relates to your clinical issue of interest, including a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest.
A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article.
A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the research methodology used. Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.
A brief (1- to 2-paragraph) description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
